الملخص

Sustainable Water Management: Concepts, Indicators and Strategies in Algeria is an academic and policy-oriented book devoted to the problem of sustainable water management under scarcity. The book begins by presenting water as a vital resource, a common good, a public service, and a strategic factor for development, equity, ecosystem protection, and territorial stability. It then expands the analysis to international water governance, including cooperation, rights, public participation, affordability, basin-scale management, and the water-energy-food-ecosystem nexus. A central part of the book is dedicated to indicators and decision-support tools, with attention to SDG 6, DPSIR-type frameworks, water quality, service performance, groundwater vulnerability, desalination, reuse, irrigation efficiency, and governance indicators. The discussion then adopts a systemic approach, showing how water resources, users, infrastructure, institutions, climate risks, and territorial inequalities interact. The Algerian case is examined in detail through climate constraints, regional disparities, surface-water limits, groundwater pressure, Saharan aquifers, urban demand, agriculture, and data gaps. The final chapter assesses strategic responses: dams, transfers, desalination, wastewater reuse, leakage reduction, digital monitoring, legal governance, and an integrated roadmap to 2030 and beyond. The book is especially useful for students, researchers, planners, and decision-makers concerned with water security in Algeria.
