Résumé

This book offers a comprehensive examination of photovoltaic technologies and their performance under the demanding conditions of the Algerian desert. It begins by situating solar energy within global and national energy transitions, highlighting Algeria’s exceptional solar potential, renewable-energy strategies, institutional framework, and emerging photovoltaic market. It then explains the structure, operation, standards, and qualification procedures of photovoltaic cells and modules, comparing major technologies and their practical applications. Particular attention is given to electrical modeling, I–V and P–V characteristics, maximum power point tracking, reliability, degradation mechanisms, and module lifespan. The final sections focus on the influence of Saharan conditions—including high temperatures, intense radiation, dust, wind, and humidity—on photovoltaic performance and durability. Combining scientific foundations, technological analysis, and field-based evaluation, the book provides a valuable reference for researchers, engineers, students, decision-makers, and professionals seeking to design, assess, and improve reliable solar-energy systems for arid and desert environments in Algeria and beyond today.
