Abstract

Bioactive Actinobacteria and β-Lactam Resistance explores actinobacteria as reservoirs of specialized metabolites with antibacterial and resistance-modifying potential. The book links ecological diversity and bioprospecting to β-lactam resistance mechanisms, β-lactamase inhibition, and the discovery of natural enzyme inhibitors. It presents an integrated workflow covering selective isolation, phenotypic and molecular identification, fermentation, extraction, antimicrobial screening, MIC determination, and β-lactamase-focused assays. Chemical characterization through spectroscopic, chromatographic, and mass-spectrometric approaches is then connected to bioactivity-guided prioritization, structural elucidation, mechanistic validation, production optimization, and valorization.
